The Bump and other user inputs

Basic

Users can input various types of order status from the screens at the individual kitchen production work stations.

More info

(Yes, there was a worldwide dance craze in the mid 70's called "The Bump" but this is not THAT kind of bump!)

When a food item is completed at any of the kitchen production/work stations equipped with a KDS screen the team member working there will input a "finished prompt" to "Bump" or remove the order item from their screen.

A bump input is done either by touching a key on a simple type of miniature keyboard called a "Bump Bar" that is remotely mounted from the screen or by directly touching the correct order ticket section of the display grid on a touchscreen monitor, touch computer or tablet.

Other page viewing options and input functions can be accessed with touchscreens from a navigation bar located along one of the edges of the display.

Bump bars can also have dedicated "Hot Keys" which are pre-programmed for special functions or users can navigate a series of pointing commands to direct the cursor on the screen.

Finish bumping the order removes the item from the cooks screen, stops the timer related to speed of service data, and sends the item with it's updated status to one of the expediter screens to be displayed with the rest of the food items included in the order.

Bump inputs can also be used to relate the preparation status of items that require multiple steps to complete. These types of inputs can also be used to signal the system to display the other items in the order that need less time to prepare.

Once a finish bump is input at an individual production KDS screen the actual food items are then delivered either to an order assembler on the cook's side of the pass through area or to an expediter or server on the expo side of the pass through area.

The order assemblers on the cook's side of the pass through window will also input a bump prompt to record when the total order has been completed and the finished plates have been moved across the pass through to the expo side.

The expediters or servers on the expo side of the pass through window will also input a prompt to record when the completed total order has been picked up by the servers from the expo side of the pass through and remove the order item from their screen.

The bump function can also be used to change any order’s position in the preparation queue and effectively move the order forward or back in priority.

Other user inputs besides the bump function include scrolling through items, recalling past items, viewing the "All Day" display which shows all of the items that are currently needed or are cooking, or view the entire days order history. Discuss all of the display options with your system vendor to identify which functions will work best with your operation.
